Designers are already starting to pinpoint renovation design trends set to take over homes in 2026. Features like in-home gyms and saunas are on the rise, while cooler stones and tiles are being replaced with rich hues and seamless stone.Â
Open concept layouts will be left behind in 2025 and will be replaced by more defined spaces.Â
“As people spend more time at home, the appeal of more traditional floor plans with spaces that are separated for visual and sound privacy has become very evident,” said Peter Miles, architect and principal at The Drawing Board, Inc.
Homeowners are staying in their houses longer. As a result, they are looking away from the home’s resale value. Instead, they are prioritizing happiness and comfort. People’s renovations are expected to include more color to reflect their personality. While neutral tones are still in, a softer look to the previous cool greys and taupes will take precedence, such as muted terracotta, ochre, clay, olive and rich browns, woven into wood paneling, trim, fabrics and stone.Â
