Historic Remodel: Queen Anne home from 1904

Historic Remodel Queen Anne home from 1904

The 1,800-square-foot, Queen Anne-style home and former boarding house was transformed to a charming single family home. The home lies in New Albany, Indiana’s East Spring Street Historic District and underwent a complete remodel with the aim to balance its original character and modern needs.

While the layout stayed the same, the kitchen faced a multitude of problems due to aging and neglect. It was stripped to the studs and restored to a modern function. However, the home’s original milk door is still in the home, except now it is used to store keys.

The Queen Anne home still cherishes several original features, the charming victorian staircase and the craftsman woodwork. The homeowners chose to finish the attic and transform into a home office.

“We were just taking the space we have,” homeowner Anne said, “honoring what it was, and trying to enhance it for modern life.”
